Sunglasses
100% UV protection for peace of mind
Whatever your style, we have a large choice of sunglasses on sale throughout the year. Our styles range from fashionable, designer sunglasses to more traditional frames.
Prescription Sunglasses
Prescription sunglasses are beneficial when worn on sunny and cloudy days in the summer and in the low winter sun conditions. You can enjoy UV protection without compromising good vision.
Prescription sunglasses come in a choice of single, bifocal or varifocal lenses with many of the same option of tints and coatings as non-prescription sunglasses. Most sunglasses can be fitted with prescription lenses however you may wish to choose from our extremely popular Prescription Sunglass Collection.
Protection at all times of the year
All our sunglasses give 100% UV protection which is essential for protecting the eyes from the sun’s harmful rays and glare. Wearing sunglasses not only protects the eyes from the summer sun but they are also important in minimising the reflected glare from snow and the low winter sun when driving.
Protecting our eyes from harmful UVA and UVB rays can help to prevent cataracts and a number of other eye diseases such as age related macular degeneration which can cause blindness. Our sunglasses carry the European CE mark for quality and UV400 protection which absorbs all wavelengths of UV.
Choice of lenses
Whatever your preference, we have a range of coloured tints, mirror coatings, photochromic lenses, polarising lenses and anti-reflection lenses from which to choose. Our Dispensing Opticians can advise you on the most appropriate tint or lens design for your particular requirements to give you protection against bright light and better colour perception.
Sun and sport lens samples are also available in the practice for you to look through so you can see and compare the different range of tints or we have demonstration videos for some lens types to show you the benefits more clearly on screen.
Sunglasses for contact lens wearers
Contact lens wearers should also consider protecting their eyes from glare and damaging ultraviolet rays.
Although some contact lenses contain UV-blocking agents which help to protect the cornea, we would always recommend wearing sunglasses for added protection against harmful UVA and UVB rays as they do cover more of the eye and the skin around the eye.
Polarised sunglasses and sports eyewear offer an ideal solution as they reduce glare and give good clear definition.
Sunglasses for children
We recommend sunglasses for children as their sight is still developing and are susceptible to the effects of the sun which can lead to long-term damage. Children need greater care and protection from UV light than adults do.
Wearing sunglasses should be part of a sun protection routine for children. Parents understand the importance of protecting children’s skin from the harmful rays of the sun by using high factor sun lotions but often are unaware of the dangers of UV light on children’s eyesight.
We stock a range of quality UV-protective sunglasses suitable for babies right up to teenagers including wraparound styles. As with our adult sunglasses, all our children’s sunglasses carry the European CE mark for quality and give 100% UV protection.
